The Mimosa Report:
Late Night at Rudy Can’t Fail Cafe:
There are desperate things, and there are things we do when we’re desperate. Dignity separates the two. And dignity was on the line here. We had no choice but to go to Rudy’s in Oakland the other night. By ‘no choice,’ I mean a vegetarian in Oakland after 11 pm may as well be in Cheyenne, WY cuz there isn’t much out there. With a BART deadline fast approaching and a stomach quickly reaching the gurgling point we needed food quicker than we could wait for.
For.
So we opted for Rudy’s. And it didn’t fail. We both ordered crunchy Asian tofu salads and we basically got what wanted. Healthy carbs to make a BART ride home possible. But that didn’t please us nearly as much as the buffalo tofu. Fried tofu with typical buffalo wing sauce. The real sauce. And the ranch sauce just felt right! It’s hard to find the real experience, yet we got it at Rudy’s.
Let’s talk drinks. Dano got a mimosa and it was something you’d make at home. $5 and it tasted fine and it wasn’t huge but what can you expect for that much? Good enough for Dano. I got the Shaking’ Jesse, cuz I was feeling’ naughty. Guinness, chocolate ice cream and espresso milkshake. Reminded me of that badass Guinness float you can get at St. Francis but with chocolate and espresso, which I absolutely did not meet at 12:30 am. For. $5.75 I’d say it’s a deal.
For our condition (we’d been drinking all night) and our needs (late night vegetarian before BART comes) we got more than we expected. But we were desperate and worse could have happened to us. Thanks to Rudy’s Can’t Fail Cafe, we kept our dignity and made it back to the city. ***
